Labor, Employment and Welfare Workshop - Orna Lin & Co
In the past several decades the structure of the labor market and of the welfare state, in Israel and around the world, has undergone significant changes. These changes have tested basic assumptions about the nature of employment relationships, industrial relations, and the responsibility of the state and the labor market for the citizen's/worker's wellbeing and economic sustenance. The workshop will introduce the students to the research of leading Israeli and international scholars in the fields of labor, employment, and welfare law, and specifically with scholarship that concerns the legal responses to the changing world of work and welfare. Among other issues, we will read and discuss writings about globalization, discrimination and identity, inequality and distributive outcomes, technological changes, and the adaptation of existing institutions, such as labor unions, to the changing world of work.
